More than 50 students across Georgia, including dozens in metro Atlanta, have received about $147,000 in scholarships from cable giant Comcast.

Comcast announced earlier this week that its Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program recognized 56 students for outstanding community service, academic performance and leadership skills.

The award, funded by the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation, is a one-time, $2,500 scholarship to be used for undergraduate education-related expenses.

“We are honored to recognize the amazing accomplishments of our Leaders and Achievers scholarship winners in Georgia,”Jason Gumbs, Comcast Regional SVP, said in a statement. “They are top achievers in academics, leaders in the community and leaders among their peers.”

Winners hailed from all over metro area, including Drew Charter High School in Atlanta, Jonesboro High School in Clayton County and Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs.
