Cobb Police are seeking more golf players/teams and sponsors for the Cops & Kids Fundraiser Golf Tournament.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 at Governors Towne Golf Club, 4200 Governors Towne Club Drive, Acworth.

Funds raised will be used by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Cops & Kids to select a few dozen underprivileged children from within the community and take them Christmas shopping.

The children will be paired with police officers and other community helpers and given the chance to pick out a few presents and/or necessities for themselves and their siblings.

Their gifts then will be wrapped to put under their Christmas trees at no cost to the children or their parents/guardians.

Not only will the funds from the golf event go back to the FOP Cops & Kids Christmas events, but they will be used long before December, according to a county statement.

An additional goal is to pay all of the balances for the reduced lunch program in the Cobb County School District.
