Cobb offering free gun safety classes
The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office will be offering several free gun safety classes beginning this month.
Participants will work with Sheriff Neil Warren to learn about firearm safety, proper storage, laws regarding owning and transferring ownership of guns, the Georgia weapons license, use of force and safety techniques for active shooter situations. The class will also help participants choose the right type of firearm for them, as well as firearm alternatives, according to the sheriff’s office.
The classes only provide classroom instruction; there is no live firearm training.
Class times and locations are as follows:
- July 13 at 6 p.m., North Cobb Senior Center, 3900 S. Main St., Acworth
- Sept. 14 at 6 p.m., East Cobb Senior Center, 3332 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta
- Nov. 2 at 6 p.m., Senior Wellness Center, 1150 Powder Springs St., Marietta
Anyone age 21 and over from any county may attend the classes. Anyone under the age of 21 must attend with their parent or legal guardian. Participants age 18 to 21 that have completed basic military training or have been honorably discharged from the military may attend the classes, but must bring valid documentation.
Classes will last about two and a half hours. There is no need to register, and each participant will also receive a free safety gun lock.
