Cobb extends ban on new billboards

A ban on consideration of new billboards has been extended in Cobb County.
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners agreed 5-0 on Feb. 26 to extend the moratorium on billboards until June 30.
Meanwhile county staff will review and make proposed amendments to the sign ordinance unless these amendments are submitted and approved by the commissioners before June 30.
In January 1999, the commissioners adopted Cobb County Code Section 134-318 about billboards, also called off-premise signs - a section that was changed in July 2016.
Before then - in September 2009, the commissioners adopted a change to that section to reduce the number of billboards which was changed again in February 2011, February 2012 and July 2016.
These code sections were developed to provide policy guidance on billboards.
In September 2018, the commissioners authorized the ban on new billboards until March 31, 2019 but now until June 30.
