Austell and Cobb County face about $14.2 million in repairs of public property from the flood of Sept. 2009

Preliminary estimates are trickling in.

These numbers do not include damage to schools, homes, private property and businesses.

Here are some highlights so far, with the five most expensive projects for each department:

Water/Sewer

R.L. Sutton Water Reclamation Facility: $1,350,000

Noonday Water Reclamation Facility: $362,500

Notes: The county's water reclamation facility cleans waste water  before releasing it into the river. The lift stations pump raw sewage to the treatment facilities.

Notes: Legion Park in Austell was demolished by 25 feet of water. It lost four Little League fields, lights, bleachers, scoreboards, a concession facility, gazebo, picnic tables, retaining wall, walking trail, parking lot and playground. The figure includes cost of debris and mud removal.

Notes: Several of the roads were totally washed out. Homes in the Waterford subdivision on Netherstone Drive were cut off by the loss of the road. The county placed crushed stone and opened the roads temporarily but will need to rebuild culverts, add asphalt and gutters.
