A rezoning request by Elite Auto Collision and Sales was denied 4-1 Tuesday by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

Commissioner Bob Ott suggested the commissioners vote to deny the application instead of changing the zoning from Light Industrial to Neighborhood Retail Commercial as requested by Commissioner Lisa Cupid.

This rezoning will not allow for a body shop.

“There is no need for another body shop when there are so many in this area,”said Cupid.

Elite had wanted to build their second business in the Mableton area at 380 Veterans Memorial Highway east of Lakeshore Drive on the vacant site of Bolton Furniture.

Speaking for Elite, attorney Garvis Sams said several businesses and residents in the area were in favor of this development.

However, Robin Meyer, zoning chair of the Mableton Improvement Coalition, said MIC has been “opposed all along” since the request “does not conform to the future land use plan.”

Meyer said other surrounding residents were opposed to this rezoning.
