An 18-year-old Marietta boy was killed early Sunday after his sedan crossed into oncoming traffic and hit an SUV head-on, police said.

Jail Garcia was driving a Honda Civic on Church Road headed east toward Smyrna about 4 a.m. when he collided with a Ford Explorer near Landmark Drive. The Honda went up in flames, Cobb police spokeswoman Sarah O’Hara said.

“Bystanders were able to extricate the passenger in the Honda before it became fully engulfed, but they were unable to extricate the driver,” O’Hara said in a news release.

His passenger, 18-year-old Leslie Jimenez of Marietta, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life threatening.

The driver of the Ford, 53-year-old Charles Stancil of Lithia Springs, was also taken to Kennestone. His injuries are also serious, but not considered life threatening, police said.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County police traffic investigation unit at 770-499-3987.
