Parents concerned about changes made to the Cobb County Schools calendar that shorten summer break have started a petition against the switch.

An e-mail petition circulating on the Internet showed the group has reportedly collected the names and addresses of 300 parents against the school district’s new calendar.

The "balanced calendar" approved last week by the school board, will shorten summer break for Cobb students by two weeks. Cobb students, however, will have a week off in September and February, as well as a full week at Thanksgiving. Students will begin classes during the first week in August and finish on the Friday before Memorial Day.

The calendar was approved by a 4-3 Cobb County School Board vote despite the protest of parents.
