Cobb County is opening an assistive technology lab for senior citizens, people with disabilities and their caregivers.

Assistive technology is any item or piece of equipment used to improve someone’s daily life by assisting with activities such as eating, bathing, mobility, vision and communication.

While there are AT programs in Fulton and DeKalb counties, there are no programs in Cobb, Douglas and Cherokee counties, according to a county statement.

Cobb Senior Services is establishing this AT lab under contract with the Atlanta Regional Commission to provide an interactive space for the community to observe demonstrations and test assistive technology.

A free open house for the lab will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Senior Wellness Center, 1150 Powder Springs St., Marietta.

Technology and home modification exhibitors will be present.

Also, students from Chattahoochee Technical College’s Occupational Therapist Assistant program will provide fall risk assessments.

People of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.
