The Cobb County Public Library System has begun making 100 mobile internet hot spot devices available for checkout by Cobb County residents.

The Connecting Cobb pilot program is designed to expand Wi-Fi access for Cobb residents.

A small, rectangular T-Mobile device is capable of connecting up to 10 digital devices to the internet. It can be checked out for one week.

This program allows mobile internet service to be checked out “the same way a book or DVD is checked out,” said James Maleiko, manager of the Public Sector Division of T-Mobile in Georgia, of this growing national trend among libraries.

Brooks said the device is easy to set up when the user enters the password printed on the device to connect it to the Wi-Fi.

The overdue fine for the device is $1 per day – the same amount as an overdue DVD checked out from the library.
