Some activists in Cobb County are getting what they want as a controversial abortion announced it clinic closed its doors Sunday.
Alpha Gynecology and Consulting, located at 410 Villa Rica Way in Marietta, took over a medical building in 2015 that used to house a pediatric clinic.
Almost immediately, large and loud protests followed.
About 50 people protested the clinic in August, according to the Marietta Daily Journal.
Then came a lawsuit by the former tenant and landlord, saying the operator, Daniel McBrayer, a Marietta OB-GYN, pulled a fast one and they didn’t disclose it would operate as an abortion clinic, according to Channel 2 Action News.
They also claimed the staff inside were performing medical procedures they weren’t licensed for.
The case went into mediation, which apparently resulted in the decision to close, Channel 2 reported.
“It’s a neighborhood and the people who live in the neighborhood were concerned by having this kind of operation in their backyard,” a protester told Channel 2.
Bill Hagerty was part of the small group of protesters outside the clinic on Friday.
“They just do not want this in their neighborhood,” Hagerty told Channel 2.
The protesters expect the clinic will simply move on, but said they’d be ready to protest when doctors showed up at other Cobb County clinics.
Lawyers told Channel 2 they’re bound by a non-disclosure agreement following the court mediation.
