The Cobb County Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will be working together on the Violent Crimes Task Force. A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was approved unanimously Jan. 23 by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.
Focusing on Cobb County, this Task Force will conduct investigations involving firearms trafficking and firearms-related violent crimes, according to Cobb Police Chief Michael Register and Cobb Public Safety Director Sam Heaton.

To accomplish the Task Force’s objectives, the police department will assign one police officer full time for no less than two years. The police department will receive reimbursement from the ATF for any overtime, travel, vehicle or other related expenses for their officer.
This agreement can be changed any time by written consent of all participating agencies. Cobb can withdraw from the Task Force with a 90-day written notice.
