At Cobb County International Airport, aircraft storage rates will increase on Jan. 1.

All aircraft storage rates are being standardized to the same rates that new based aircraft are offered, according to board member Dave Kucko of Hawthorne Global Aviation.

Owners have been provided 90 days of notice to establish a new lease or relocate before Jan. 1, Kucko added.

This matter and others were discussed on Oct. 7 by the Airport Strategic Planning Board with members including elected officials, Cobb Commissioner JoAnn Birrell and Kennesaw Mayor Derek Easterling.

Air traffic has been consistently growing and customs activity continues to grow quarter over quarter, according to Airport Manager Karl Von Hagel.

Military aircraft activity continues to be a growing area of business, including a recent flight of 14 training aircraft stopping over at Cobb Airport, Kucko said.

Expected to be active in the next 30 days, Card Access System Security Cameras are being installed at each airport entrance to monitor arrivals and departures through the gates, he added.

New tenants include Priority Jet Aircraft Charter/Management, a Citation Jet and several single-engine aircraft, Kucko added.

However, Kucko said a nonoperational Gulfstream II has been removed from the airport and delivered to its new home at a restaurant near the Rome, Georgia airport.

In other business, Cobb’s Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Station is scheduled to begin construction in the spring with completion during the summer of 2021.

Also, the North Apron Rehabilitation Project is expected to begin construction by April.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the state will pay 95 percent of this project.

C. W. Matthews has been awarded the construction contract of nearly $2,321,495, with an estimated total project cost of $2,477,208.
