Clayton County police are seeking the owner of a funeral urn full of ashes that was discovered along a line of trees at the Cobblestone Flat Apartments on Rex Road, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Two officers were on routine foot patrol Sunday when they spotted the urn, a black container with a gold design on the outside and a blue interior. The ashes were in a sealed plastic bag inside.

“It didn’t look like it had been out there for a long time,” Clayton police Sgt. Otis Willis said. “It looks like it had just been placed there. … [The officers] just thought it was a vase until the walked up on it and saw the remains inside.”

Clayton police have no idea where the urn came from, whether it was stolen or if it was dumped at the apartment complex by mistake. They are asking anyone with information to contact them at 770-477-3747.
