Clayton County approves creation of first CID
The Clayton County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously last week to create the county’s first Community Improvement District. The Clayton Airport South Community Improvement District includes the area around Interstate 285, Sullivan Road, the Phoenix Boulevard area, Riverdale Road, West Fayetteville Road, and the Camp Creek area near the Georgia International Convention Center.
College Park’s city council recently approved $50,000 to the formation effort.
Airport South CID will join Airport West CID, which was formally established last year. Airport South includes commercial property in northwest Clayton and College Park bordering Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The CIDs plan to work together on common infrastructure and economic development initiatives, according to a news release.
The Airport South CID is expected to generate $400,000 from an extra tax business property owners within the CID agree to pay to improve the area. The CID has complete control over the additional property money to use toward beautification, infrastructure and public safety projects.
