Church expansion gets Hampton City Council OK

The Hampton City Council approved expansion plans for First Baptist Church.

The Hampton City Council approved expansion plans for First Baptist Church.

The Hampton City Council voted Aug. 14 to approve a conditional use request from First Baptist Church of Hampton for the additional of athletic fields on 32 acres of its 85 McDonough Street property.

The Henry County Zoning Advisory Board recommended approval in July with two conditions; downcast lighting and no on-field parking. A report from a church representative stated that the church wants to use the property for children’s/youth recreational activities, specifically Upward soccer and flag football in their respective seasons during the daytime with no lights planned at this time.

Other possible uses such as youth activities and church-wide events could be scheduled there as well.
