Like a scene out of Law & Order, a Gwinnett County man and woman are in jail today after authorities say they attempted an exorcism on her child.
Sandra Alfred, 46, of Lilburn, was arrested Friday for false imprisonment and cruelty to children for using handcuffs to restrain her 15-year-old son, according to Lilburn Police Department spokesman Det. Matthew Lake.
Family friend Larry Powell, of Lilburn, was also arrested and charged with cruelty to children.
According to Lake, Alfred or Powell called police to report an "unruly juvenile" on June 10. An investigation revealed that the teen had been held against his will with handcuffs and was denied food and water for periods of 12 hours at a time over a three-day period, Lake said.
They told police they were attempting an exorcism on the boy, Lake said.
The teen was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center where he was treated for injuries and dehydration and later released, Lake said.
Investigator Sgt. Stephen Weed of the Lilburn Police Department noted that Alfred may suffer from delusions, according to a report by the Gwinnett Daily Post.
Alfred and Powell remain in jail awaiting a June 26th hearing.
The case is now under investigation by the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office and the Department of Family and Children's Services.
