The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved land and lease agreements with the state for new offices for two family services agencies.

The state will lease from Cherokee 5,558 square feet soon to be vacated by the County Marshal’s office at 2782 Marietta Highway, Canton, for the Division of Child Support Services. The state will pay $25,000 rent the first year, with options to renew for $25,000 in Year Two and $50,000 in Year Three.

The county will make minor modifications to make the space ADA compliant and install security features to be paid for by the state. The state will for pay for all utilities.

Also, Cherokee will transfer five acres of county-owned land on Chattin Drive in Canton for construction by the state of a new facility for Child Support and the Division of Family and Children Services.

The site is part of a larger, 48.7-acre tract owned by the county off Univeter Road, according to a staff report to commissioners. DFCS would move from 105 Lamar Haley Parkway, and DCSS, from 321 Lamar Haley, both in Canton.
