Cherokee schools tweaks attendance area for new subdivision

The Cherokee County School Board has tweaked the attendance boundary of two elementary schools to ensure students from a new housing development will not be divided between them.
Had the board not acted, students from the recently started Victory Preserve subdivision in the western part of Cherokee County could have ended up divided between Boston and Oak Grove schools, according to a staff report to the board. The subdivision, with 54 homes, is being built at Woodstock Road and Victory Drive.
School District Superintendent Brian V. Hightower requested a Scrivener’s Map adjustment, shifting the entire student population to Boston Elementary. Boston’s enrollment is projected to be at 68 percent of capacity in the 2019-20 school year, so the shift can be accomplished without overcrowding that school or affecting currently enrolled students, staff said.
