Cherokee County Schools have renewed a partnership agreement with a Canton-based nonprofit organization that provides services to developmentally disabled persons.
Under the one-year agreement with the Cherokee Day Training Center, the School Board will make school facilities available for CDTC recreational programs, meetings and functions, waiving the rental fee as permitted under the district’s community use policy.
The district also will create a transition program allowing students with severe or profound intellectual disabilities to spend part of the day at CDTC during their last year of attendance in the schools.
The Training Center, in turn, will provide space for developmentally disabled students, as needed and as available.
Among other services, CDTC provides support and training for community-based jobs, and skill-building in such areas as daily living, socialization and health and safety.
