At a recent Cherokee County School Board meeting, officials praised retiring administrator Susan McCarthy for her lifetime of service, rising from classroom teacher and Teacher of the Year to assistant principal, principal, district leader and most recently, assistant superintendent for educational programs.

McCarthy will be succeeded by Nicole Holmes, promoted from director of elementary school operations and whose new title will be chief academic officer. Holmes, in turn, will be succeeded by Beth P. Long, currently principal of the Canton Elementary School STEM Academy.

The board also named Christina Clayton to be supervisor of digital content; Amy Chaffin, supervisor of middle and high school curriculum; Linda Wallace, supervisor of federal programs; Melissa Sneed, supervisor of special education; Karla Tipton, supervisor of technology support services; Chris Saxon, supervisor of technology field services; Rouel Belleza, supervisor of student services; and Danielle Ross, emergency operations facilitator.

Chaffin, Wallace and Sneed will join Cherokee from the Worth, Pickens and Cobb county schools, respectively. Ross will come to Cherokee from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
