With the filling of two central administrative vacancies, the Cherokee County School District can begin the annual hiring process for principals, assistant principals and other school leaders, officials said.

The Cherokee School Board on Feb. 15 approved naming Shannon Carroll as the new supervisor for instructional technology, and Rocky Simpson, the new coordinator of maintenance.

Carroll joined the district in 1993 as a teacher, was named Teacher of the Year twice, and moved into district leadership roles in curriculum and professional development, officials said. Simpson, a graduate of Cherokee High, returned to the district in 2002 after earning a degree from Kennesaw State University.

The board is expected to approve recommendations for principal openings in March, and appointments for assistant principals and other vacant leadership positions in April.
