The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved an $80,350 professional services agreement with Wolverton & Associates Inc. to design congestion relief at the intersection of Holbrook Campground and Birmingham roads.

Holbrook Campground and Birmingham are two-lane roads that meet at a four-way stop in the eastern part of the county near the Forsyth County line. Motorists experience significant delays during the morning and evening rush hours, staff said in a report to commissioners.

Wolverton will examine the crossroads and recommend the best solution, “whether that be the installation of traffic signal and associated turn lanes, or the installation of a roundabout, based upon existing roadway geometry, existing utility locations, existing and proposed right-of-way and total project cost,” staff said.
