A biennial survey of existing industry by the Cherokee Office of Economic Development paints a healthy picture of the county’s manufacturing and industrial climate.

The results showed 87 percent of local companies surveyed reported increased sales plus job growth of 60 percent since last being surveyed in 2013. More than 90 percent of the companies said they added capital investment totaling more than $70 million.

Also, almost 90 percent of those taking part said they planned to expand in the next three years, potentially adding about 750 jobs countywide.

COED officials spent several months surveying 30 industries with 20 or more employees, including aerospace, medical and automotive firms. Officials said results will be used, in part, to help make sure those industries have needed resources.
