The Cherokee County Marshal’s Office said a recent operation targeting businesses and restaurants selling alcohol to underage patrons showed a sharp rise in non-compliance.
Maj. Jamie Gianfala said in the last go-round, a late 2015 sweep targeting establishments in unincorporated Cherokee County, all those checked were shown to be adhering to the law. He said this time, undercover operatives were successful in buying alcohol at 12 of 72 places checked. The employees involved were immediately cited for underage alcohol sales and have a pending court date.
With prom and other events upcoming, “We do not want alcohol in the hands of the young people of this community,” Gianfala said. The operation also sought to educate store employees on the ramifications of the law.
A list of the establishments checked April 30 and where citations were given: 2267 Highway 372 (Citgo), 5963 Union Hill Road (Valero), 435 Hickory Flat Highway (Shell), 8274 Knox Bridge Highway (Page & Sons), 3780 Sixes Road (Texaco) , 3760 Sixes Road (Publix) 1430 Kellogg Creek Road (3-Way), 5195 Towne Lake Parkway (Hobgood Chevron), 5724 Bells Ferry Road (Sonoco), 6223 Bells Ferry Road (Citgo), 6425 Bells Ferry Road (Exxon) and 5568 Yellow Creek Road (Super “A”).
