Cherokee County will realize more than $3.2 million selling two parcels of surplus land in deals recently approved by the county Board of Commissioners.

Taylor & Mathis Properties V LLC will pay $1.75 million for 39 acres along Ga. 92 near Acworth – acreage the county paid $1.55 million for in 2009.

Known as the Dunn Property, the land was intended for a recreational park, but the surrounding area has filled up with commercial and industrial development, including a Cabela’s sporting goods store at Ga. 92 and I-75. Taylor & Mathis pans to build a 300,000-square-foot light industrial business, Cherokee officials said.

The other tract is 23 acres on Gresham Mill Parkway next to the Cherokee County Aquatic Center. It will be sold to Southland Land Specialist LLC for $1.47 million. It is what’s left of 37.6 acres the county paid $1.73 million for in 2010; the Aquatics Center was built on part of the site.

Southland plans to seek Traditional Neighborhood Development zoning from Holly Springs for the land, county officials said.
