The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has agreed to give to the Georgia Department of Transportation land from the site of Fire Station 4 for the Ga. 20 widening project.

The county will provide 0.015 acres fee simple and 0.011 acres as a permanent construction easement at 9253 Freehome Highway, Canton, according to agenda documents. Appraisers have valued the contribution at $3,600.

The land is going toward the widening of Ga. 20 from two to six lanes from Ga. 369 to Ga. 371.

“The right-of-way and easement are necessary for the utility companies to complete utility relocations in conjunction with the project — relocation of a power pole and guy wires as well as the relocation of a water vault and water meters,” staff said in a report to commissioners.

“There is no cost to the county. The tornado siren near the location of this acquired area will not be disturbed.”
