The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has awarded a $193,778 construction contract for the renovation of Fire & Emergency Services Station 17, in the Lake Arrowhead Community near Waleska.

PMA Construction submitted the lower of two bids for the work, according to a staff report to commissioners.

“The project includes approximately 930 square feet of renovations and additions to the existing facility to expand the engine bays, add new sleeping quarters, bathroom, shower and supporting storage, and replacing the roof,” staff said. “The station will remain open and 100% operational throughout the entire construction process.”

The work will be paid for using $150,000 in SPLOST 2018 funds and $63,778 in impact fees, staff said. Commissioners also approved a budget amendment moving money from impact fee reserves to the impact fee building improvement fund.

The total project cost, including the county’s $20,000 controlled contingency, is $213,778.
