Chandler defeats Republican rival in Gwinnett House race

May 25, 2016

State Rep. Joyce Chandler cleared the first hurdle in her bid to seek a third term Tuesday.

Chandler defeated Republican David Crocker by a sizable margin in House District 105 in the Grayson area of Gwinnett County. In the Democratic primary for the district, Donna McLeod defeated Perry Green.

Chandler was first elected in 2012, and both of her previous elections have been close. She recently told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the district leaned Democratic when she ran for re-election in 2014. Since then, the Republican-controlled General Assembly has redrawn district boundaries to add Republicans.

In recent weeks Chandler has received a $36,500 influx of campaign cash from fellow Republicans in the General Assembly.
