The Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is assisting with a recall of salad distributed to Wal-Mart stores in the Southeast United States after two people in Florida discovered a dead bat in the food.

The Food and Drug Administration issued a precautionary recall on Saturday for a limited quantity of 5-ounce packages of Organic Marketside Spring Mix, officials said in a news release.

The bat was sent to the CDC rabies lab for laboratory testing because bats in the United States sometimes have been found to have this disease, the CDC said in a release.

“The deteriorated condition of the bat did not allow for CDC to definitively rule out whether this bat had rabies,” the statement read.

All affected product was distributed in clear containers to Wal-Mart stores in the southeast, with UPC code 6 8113132897 5, the FDA said. The production code is G089B19 with a best-if-used-by date of April 14.
