Carroll County firefighters arrived quickly enough at a burning house Tuesday to save a teenager but too late for a little boy.
“We found a female on the roof who was trapped and we rescued her,” said Deputy Chief Bud Bennifield. “Inside we did discover the body of a 4-year-old child.”
The fire was blazing on the second floor of the house, Bennifield said. Firefighters attacked it with hoses while other crew members and sheriff’s deputies got a ladder on the house to reach the 18-year-old girl. After they entered the home, they found the body of the boy in the second-floor room where they believe the fire started, Bennifield said.
He said the first firetruck arrived at the house in the 1700 block of Center Point Road in six minutes after getting the call at 2:55 p.m.
The 18-year-old girl and the 4-year-old boy’s mother were transported to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton for treatment. Bennifield declined to release their names until extended family could be notified about the boy’s death.
Three firefighters were also treated for minor burn injuries at the hospital, Bennifield said.
Investigators are now trying to determine the cause of the fire.
