Recent mail and package thefts have Canton Police hunting suspects and warning residents.
Police officer Pacer Cordry said that on Sunday, police responded to several calls about thefts from mailboxes in the River Green subdivision. In addition, delivery packages were stolen last week at an apartment complex. Police say that some of the River Green mail was recovered at the subdivision’s park, apparently discarded by the thieves.
Police said residents should:
- consider a locking mailbox or PO box,
- retrieve curbside mail promptly to lessen the chances of thievery,
- drop outgoing packages at the post office and
- use a mail service that tracks packages and provides for insuring contents and requiring a signature at the door.
