After months of discussion, the city of Canton is looking to hire its first parks and recreation director.
The planned new hire will take charge of the department’s employees, programs, facilities and events. The decision was driven by expansion in the city’s park system, particularly the coming-on-line of Etowah River Park and its planned menu of sports and recreation leagues. Until now, the leagues themselves have handled scheduling and maintenance on an ad-hoc basis.
City council members gave City Manager Glen Cummins the go-ahead to fill the position at the Feb. 19 meeting. No precise timeline’s been set for bringing someone on board.
