A bus fire slowed traffic on the top-end Perimeter during the early stages of Wednesday’s morning commute.

The bus caught fire before 6:15 a.m. on I-285 eastbound before Northside Drive, near the Chattahoochee River bridge.

There were no passengers on the bus, and the bus driver escaped without injury.

The bus was operated by MTI Limo and Shuttle Services. In May, a shuttle bus operated by the company was involved in a wreck at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport that injured 16 people.

State officials suspended the company's operations after several safety violations were found on company vehicles. MTI was allowed to resume operating in mid-July.

Two right lanes of I-285 eastbound were blocked as fire crews doused the flames.
