The Fulton County Commission has appointed former state House Speaker Mark Burkhalter to the North Fulton Community Improvement District board. Commissioner Liz Hausmann nominated him. The CID, a self-taxing district, was formed by business leaders in 2003 to boost infrastructure and has invested more than $13 million in north Fulton.

Burkhalter served as House speaker and speaker pro tem during his 18 years in the General Assembly. He is currently a senior strategic advisor and independent consultant with McKenna Long & Aldridge law firm in Atlanta.
