As Barbara Brown realized she was a Fantasy 5 lottery winner, she cried.

The Buford resident matched all five winning numbers in the Aug. 10 Fantasy 5 drawing, walking away with a $377,489 jackpot prize.

“I cried, and I laughed,” she said. “I feel good, really good.”

Brown, 74, purchased her winning ticket at Chevron Food Mart on Highway 23 in Buford. The winnings numbers, which she admits she jotted on a whim, were: 9-23-30-33-35.

“They had no significance,” she said, adding that she called the Georgia Lottery’s Player Information Hot Line the following day for the results.

Brown said she plays the lottery because of the lottery-funded HOPE Scholarship program.

“Just about all of my grandchildren went to college,” shared the mother of four and grandmother of 14.

Her plans include purchasing a new home for herself and her husband, William.
