Highway 129 in Hall County was closed for hours Monday afternoon while firefighters battled two residential fires, officials said.

The two homes were in the 3300 block of Athens Highway, Hall County fire spokesman Zachary Brackett said.

One is 1,000 square feet and the other is 2,000 square feet. Firefighters put out hot spots at the smaller home and ventilated the roof after extinguishing the main fire in the larger home, Brackett said.

An investigation into the cause of the fires is underway.
