When calling for a SPLOST referendum and approving the final project list at a July 29 special called meeting, the Henry County Board of Commissioners adjusted the project list to include $2 million in funding for two Boys and Girls Clubs, one on the east side of the county and another on the west side, should the SPLOST referendum in November be approved by voters. Both clubs are to be located within the city limits of McDonough, and the city has planned to partner with the county on the two facilities.

Officials plan to model the program after an existing one in Forsyth-Monroe County, which works with its public school system.

The new clubs will be called the Boys and Girls Clubs of Henry County-McDonough.
