Boy, 5, may have drowned at Allatoona

Cherokee Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a possible drowning of a 5-year-old boy at the Sweetwater Day Use area on Lake Allatoona.

At about 3:52 p.m. Friday, Cherokee Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched.

According to Sheriff officials, the victim was located about 40 feet from shore in about 6-foot deep water.

The boy, whose family resides in Canton, was at the beach with family members.

The boy was transported to Northside Cherokee Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The name of the victim has not been released.
