Over 100 bowlers brought their best at AMF Marietta Lanes on Aug. 13 to support the Communities In Schools of Marietta/Cobb County. The third annual Bowling for Scholars Bowl – A- Thon, hosted by the Citizens of Georgia Power - Metro West Chapter, raised money to help to further the mission of CISMCC to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and to achieve in life.

“For many years, Georgia Power has provided support in various ways for educational initiatives throughout the state of Georgia,” said Eric Swann, Citizens of Georgia Power – Metro West president. “The Metro West chapter decided to start a bowl-a-thon in 2014 as a fundraiser for a charitable organization and Communities In Schools of Marietta/Cobb County was chosen for its mission to support students in school and in life. It perfectly aligns with Georgia Power’s focus on support for education.”

The fundraiser is a one-day event where teams gather to bowl for two hours, and all of the money raised goes directly to CISMCC and to the students it serves.

In the 2015-2016 school year, CISMCC served 5,000 students, over 570 parents and 50 preschool children with the help of over 350 volunteers who mentored, assisted with programs and more. To continue giving back, the community can be involved with CISMCC through volunteer opportunities.

One example is Reality U, a financial literacy simulation for middle and high school students to learn financial literacy and the correlation between fiscal well-being and academic achievement. CISMCC also needs volunteers to assist with various administrative activities, reading to our students, mentoring and we are always open for donations of school supplies, books and clothes.

“Citizens of Georgia Power is passionate about our cause and helping the children in our community,” said Carol Fey, executive director of CISMCC. “Their efforts and support helps our daily work to reduce the dropout rate in Marietta and Cobb County to make for a better, more educated and successful community.”
