A botched armed robbery of hair weaves in Rockdale County earlier this month has led to murder charges for four metro Atlanta residents.

A group of several men and women tried to rob a couple in the middle of a sale of hair weaves. A shootout ensued and one of the suspects, 21-year-old Jennifer Menzies, was shot multiple times. She later died at Rockdale Medical Center.

In addition to felony murder charges, the Rockdale Sheriff’s Office has charged the remaining four suspects with criminal attempt to commit armed robbery. The suspects are Brandon Jay Lamothe and Jaquan House, both 20 and from Conyers; James Wansley Edwards, 21, of Stone Mountain and Christina Menzies, 19, of Covington.

According to Rockdale authorities, Christina Menzies had arranged to meet a man and woman to buy hair weave. They agreed to meet in the parking lot of the swimming pool area of Fountain Crest subdivision on Ga. Highway 138/Ga. Highway 20 South.

The couple told Rockdale authorities a group — which included Jennifer Menzies — emerged from the bushes and came toward their truck. One of them was pointing a handgun, according to the sheriff’s office. The couple, who filed the complaint with police, exchanged gunfire with the suspects, resulting in Jennifer Menzies being shot multiple times.

Christina Menzies reportedly left the scene in a vehicle with Jennifer Menzies. They were headed toward Rockdale Medical when they were stopped by a sheriff’s deputy who called an ambulance to take Jennifer Menzies to the hospital. It is unclear whether Christina and Jennifer Menzies are related.

Christina Menzies was arrested and charged with being a party to the crime of armed robbery and making false statements. House was caught near the scene. Authorities found Lamothe and Edwards two days later, with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Task Force.
