Bond denied in death of shoe-collecting teen

April 2, 2013

Bond was denied Monday for one of the three suspects accused in the robbery and death of a Gwinnett County teen known for his fancy sneaker collection, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The judge said the 15-year-old, who has no prior criminal record, could be a danger to the community.

Police said the teen admitted his part in the robbery that led to the death of 14-year-old Paul Sampleton Jr. Sampleton, a Grayson High School freshman, was tied up and shot in the kitchen of his family’s townhouse on Dec. 19.

Monday’s defendant and Romaine Stewart, 18, are charged with armed robbery. Another 15-year-old is charged with murder in the case. The two younger suspects are being charged as adults, but are not being identified by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution because of their age.

The victim's mother was in court Monday and shared her thoughts on the defendant.

“He’s where he should be and he should get real comfortable being there,” Stephanie Stone told Channel 2. “Hopefully and preferably, he’ll be there for a long time … all of them.”
