One person was hurt in a boiler explosion Friday afternoon at Clark Atlanta University, authorities said.

A college staffer was working on one of the boilers in the boiler room, Atlanta Fire and Rescue Department spokeswoman Laura Alexander said.

“One of the boilers exploded while it was being serviced,” Alexander said. “The windows and one of the bay doors were affected.”

The building structure remains sound, she said.

The individual working on the boiler was injured but refused treatment, Alexander said.

The explosion happened around 2:30 p.m. at 290 Lee Street..

Officials from the state fire marshal’s office will investigate the blast, Alexander said.
