A search of Lake Lanier that lasted more than a week ended in tragedy Monday for the family of a missing 23-year-old woman.

A body found in Lake Lanier was identified as Lizeth Ruby Ruiz, 23, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Gainesville authorities had been looking for Ruiz since she was reported missing May 18 at Lanier Point Park.

Ruiz was with friends shortly before she was last seen running across a bridge toward the point.

Crews suspended the search for Ruiz on Friday evening, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said a group of boaters found a woman’s body off shore about 4 p.m. Saturday.

“This is not the outcome we had hoped for, but hope this will bring closure and peace to the family,” Holbrook told Channel 2.

Foul play is not suspected in her death and disappearance. Autopsy results indicate she died as a result of accidental drowning, police say.
