A Decatur woman’s body was found along the banks of the Chattahoochee River in Roswell on Sunday afternoon.
The woman was identified today as 20-year-old Markiesha Taylor, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The body was found around 1:25 p.m. on federal land near Roswell Road and Riverside Drive, Roswell police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Holland told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Because the body was on federal property, the FBI is handling the investigation, Holland said.
In a statement, the FBI said the woman’s body was found at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s Vickery Creek Park near the river and has been turned over to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office. No cause of death has been determined.
It was the third body found in or near the Chattahoochee in a little more than a week.
Gee Hang, 56, of Johns Creek, was pulled from the river in the area between Abbotts Bridge and State Bridge roads on May 3. Her cause of death was reported as drowning.
Two days later, the body of 34-year-old Perfecto Ochoa Alvarado was found in the river near Austell. Investigators previously said they believe he may have been dead for up to two weeks before his body was found. His death was ruled a homicide and the investigation is continuing.
