The Air Force Junior ROTC cadets from Cherokee County's Sequoyah High School won several honors at the Cadet Officer Leadership School this summer at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. The week-long program covered leadership, management, military history, drill instruction and physical training. About 300 cadets from 23 schools in five states and The Republic of Singapore competed. Among the honors: Carson Caglioni, most outstanding male basic cadet; Hannah Kasper, most outstanding female basic cadet; Eric Leekam, outstanding flight cadre cadet; Emily Geoghagan, Carson Caglioni, Hannah Kasper and Chris Simmons, most outstanding cadets in flight; Sydney Webb, outstanding cadet ribbon; Jordan Allen, Nicholas Barnes, Cailee Colegrove, Jamie Davis, Emily Geoghagan, Karl Karch, Melissa Masocol and Chris Simmons, distinguished graduates (top 10% overall).

Woodward Academy sixth grader Noah Henry, of Alpharetta, recently attended Aviation Challenge at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. Noah received the camp's highest honor — The Right Stuff Award, given to the trainee who goes above and beyond in leadership, teamwork and technology. The weeklong educational program promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Students and adults learn through hands-on activities and missions based on teamwork, leadership and decision-making.

Patrice Dawkins-Jackson, a first grade teacher and grade level chair at Dunwoody Springs Elementary School, has been selected as a Teaching Ambassador Fellow. Dawkins-Jackson is one of 12 teachers chosen by the U.S. Department of Education. She will continue to teach at Dunwoody Springs and serve as a liaison between the department and teachers. She will work with other Fellows to help increase teachers' understanding of federal education policies and programs. More than 600 teachers applied for the fellowship.
