Beryl bringing rain, wind to metro Atlanta
Tropical storm Beryl could bring heavy rain to metro Atlanta by Tuesday as clouds stream into the area for Memorial Day.
Monday could see a possible shower and thunderstorm, mainly south and east of the city, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist David Chandley. Monday's temps should be a little cooler at 86, after Sunday's high of 91.
But effects of the tropical storm that was bearing down on the coastline of northeastern Florida and southeastern Georgia on Sunday, won't hit metro Atlanta until Tuesday. "Beryl will be a rain maker throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday," Chandley said. Some of the storm's bands should reach metro Atlanta late Monday and into Tuesday, especially south and east of the city, he said.
On Tuesday expect a breezy high of 85, with an east wind of 15 to 25 mph, Chandley said. Beryl could bring gusty winds and 3 to 6 inches of rain that would be welcomed in a drought-stricken South Georgia, Chandley noted.
"This is the first time in more than 100 years that we have had two named storms before the actual beginning of hurricane season," which is June 1, Chandley noted.
Tropical Storm Beryl, with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, was expected to make landfall Sunday night.Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the entire Georgia coastline and parts of the Florida and South Carolina shore. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
