As his family looked on, a 57-year-old DeKalb County man was shot and killed in an apparent robbery, DeKalb County police said Tuesday.

Investigators believe Yahya Abajobir had just returned home with his wife and a child when he was approached by two men shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, Mekka Parish, spokeswoman for DeKalb police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The family had not made it inside the Watson Ridge Road townhouse, in the Ashbrooke Trace subdivision near Stone Mountain, when a suspect with a gun confronted Abajobir, Parish said.

The two men scuffled, and Abajobir was shot, according to police. No one was able to get a good description of the robbers who took Abajobir's wallet before leaving him on the sidewalk, police said.

A dark-color SUV was seen leaving the scene, Parish said. No suspects had been identified Tuesday, she said.

Abajobir's 12-year-old daughter told Channel 2 Action News she called 911 and tried to help keep her father alert until paramedics arrived. But Abajobir died after being transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Parish said
