Back to 70 degrees by Wednesday

Sunshine and 70 degrees on Saturday and temperatures in the 40s for Monday? Welcome to spring in Atlanta.

The first day of spring brought plenty of sunshine and temperatures hitting 70 degrees to the metro Atlanta area. The second day of the season was a different story, WSB-TV meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

"This time of year, it's typical for us to have big swings in temperatures and weather," Nitz told the AJC.

High temperatures Sunday reached the upper 50s, and rain showers popped up throughout the afternoon. Temperatures are dropping much cooler overnight into Monday morning, Nitz said.

Monday will bring rain and colder temperatures.

"We're going to spend most of the day in the 40s and damp," he said.

Those in the highest elevations of the north Georgia mountains could even see snowflakes during the day on Monday.

"It’s not going to be nearly cold enough for most of us," Nitz said.

After two days of rain, at least three days of nicer weather should follow. Tuesday will be partly cloudy, with a high temperature of 63, Nitz said. Wednesday will be sunny, with temperatures climbing into the low 70s.

By Thursday afternoon, we'll be enjoying temperatures in the mid-70s, Nitz said.
