Avondale Estates is currently working out a development agreement with South City Partners, whose proposed project on the city’s west side, between Sams Crossing and Hillyer Street, will include 190 to 205 apartments and 6562 square feet of retail.
In February South City announced it would close on the three-acre property in late June with construction beginning tentatively in July. But this week South City junior partner Charles Welch indicated that the timeline is now slightly different.
“(Construction) has been moved back,” Welch said. “I’ll only say, we will start before the end of the year.”
Although there are a number of items comprising the development agreement, the focal point is the project’s one-acre-park.
“The main thing is we want to make sure that park remains open to the public which (South City has) agreed too,” Mayor Jonathan Elmore said. “From our end, there’s been no delay.”
Meanwhile, the beginning of first-phase construction on the Avondale MARTA station development — about two blocks west of the South City site — been moved back to at least late summer.
